More Than a Name
More Than a Name
In Acts 19, there is a moment that reveals both the power and the misunderstanding of the name of Jesus.
God was working extraordinary miracles through Paul. Lives were being changed. Darkness was being pushed back. The name of Jesus was not just spoken, it was carried with authority, backed by a life surrendered and aligned with God.
Then came others.
They had seen the results.
They had heard the name.
They understood the formula, or so they thought.
They began to speak the name of Jesus over situations, trying to replicate what they witnessed. “We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.”
But something was missing.
The spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I recognize, but who are you?”
In that moment, the difference was exposed.
There is power in the name of Jesus.
But that power is not accessed through imitation.
It is not released through repetition.
It is not carried by association.
It flows through relationship.
It is backed by authority.
It is revealed through a life that walks with Him, not just speaks about Him.
The name of Jesus is not a phrase to be used.
It is a reality to be lived.
When Paul spoke, heaven responded because his life was aligned. When others tried to invoke the same name without that alignment, there was no authority behind it. The name was right, but the vessel was not prepared.
This is the difference between knowing about Jesus and being known by Him.
Authority in the Kingdom is not borrowed.
It is given.
It is walked in.
It is lived out daily.
You do not carry power because you say His name.
You carry power because you walk in His name.
Because you have surrendered.
Because you have been shaped.
Because your life reflects the One whose name you speak.
There is power in the name of Jesus, but that power is not found in simply saying it. It is found in living under it, walking in it, and being known by Him. When your life aligns with His authority, the name you speak carries the weight of heaven behind it.
